After earning your Open Water Diver certification, you can continue with ourSSI Specialty courses. These courses help you develop new skills and gain experience in different types of diving.
You can start Specialty training immediately after Open Water Diver. Some Specialty programs, such as Perfect Buoyancy, Enriched Air Nitrox, Computer Diving and Dry Suit, may even be combined with your Open Water Diver training when all training requirements are met.
Once you meet the required training and logged-dive requirements, the corresponding SSI recognition level is awarded automatically.
Specialty training is a natural next step after Open Water Diver. You develop new skills and gain experience in different areas of diving.

Whether you were certified through SSI or another training organization, you may qualify for recognition based on the number of logged open water dives.
As your number of dives grows, you can reach higher experience recognition levels. These levels are based on the number of logged open water dives you have completed.
100 logged dives
250 logged dives
500 logged dives
750 logged dives
1,000 logged dives
5,000 logged dives
Each new milestone reflects the experience you have built underwater. For many divers, these recognition levels are a meaningful way to mark how much they have learned and how much diving they have done over time.
These recognition levels are earned through training and experience; they are not something you simply purchase.
